Afterthoughts to Between Presence and Meaning

Steam rising from the head. Fuzzy fuzz in the eyes. Last week thursday and friday a lot got shaken awake, loose and delightfully confused – like is necessary for new thinking to take place.

We traveled back to Prague to take part in the Between Presence and Meaning, a symposium of dramaturgy and pedagogy organised by DAMU at Divadlo Na Zábradlí. What a beautiful space, great presentations and above all, stimulating conversations, warm reunions and new acquintances. In the mundane day-to-day, it is very easy to not notice how ones own thought gets stuck on some track or even a loop, only to be broken free by the right stimuli. And right stimuli I had – a barrage of it, to be honest. A barrage of the best kind.

On the way back home, I find myself coming back to drama-daddy, Toki Pona, performing space, some crucial points and questions about listening (I promise to elaborate on this later, on this blog or somewhere else), rooting, actor networks, dice, wiggling knees, composition and choice, shared problems, worries and joys.

I find myself always and reliably elated for returning to Prague, for one reason or another. But this time was extra special, not least thanks to Sodja, Marta, students from MA DOT and everybody else sharing this space and time, theory and practice, presence and meaning with each other.

Good feelings all around. The dinners, learning chinese poker and visiting Čertový Hlavy in the weekend didn’t hurt, either. Thank you everybody.
