Valtteri Alanen – Sound/Object/Performance
Seitsemän sisarusta
How come a Finnish nationalist-romantic novelist, Aleksis Kivi and indigenous peoples of Australia, Japan, Northern America and the early civilisations of Greece and Egypt tell the same exact story without any provable knowledge of each others narratives?

The story of the Pleiades, also known as Seven Brothers, Subaru or Seven Sisters, is a tale of seven siblings, escaping from an assault on top of a bog rock or a mountain and finding divine inspiration to get them out of trouble. An unceasing threat of violence and violation must be transmuted. This much is common to all the versions of the story from across time and space. What does change, however, is the nature and result of divine inspiration. Who will answer violence with inebriating violence, who will find just other ways to keep on escaping, and could anyone have done anything else?
